I think National is better any day over Hertz. I was a Hertz Pres Circle for one year and Five Star for about 5 years (and have it again for next year). My company gave me National Executive for free and it's much better -- I can actually get a upgraded car for free without having to beg Hertz at the counter or have them say "There's nothing else available". I've had awesome cars with National and NEVER a mid-size always a much better vehicle. I think I'm going to just be using up my hertz points and stick with national now. The only slight advantage to Hertz,I think, is the points seem to be better than the way you earn free days on National. But I guess I care more about the quality of the car I get over the points. And National has won each time with the better car -- brand new Taurus Limited, Brand new Terrain and others.

Agree, I too made the switch years ago & have never looked back. National is the shining star of my travel vendors, more so than my airlines or hotels I frequent.

That said, thanks for posting SC Flier as not everyone can choose what car rental company they go with.

It's very unfortunate as I totally agree that National is superior to Hertz but it almost never shows up as providing a rate that has my corporate approved rate. Guess at least I have tons of rental points to blow at Hertz... that's when I'll end up getting the nice luxury rentals.

I use both & each has its own pros/cons.

Based in NYC, Hertz free days are more valuable as they can be used for pickup in Manhattan where rates are @$100+/day.

National free days exclude Manhattan pickups.

OTOH, National free days can be used for 1way rentals.

Also, using Hertz's small biz program (was BAP but I think it has a new name) allows you to double dip & really rack up free days.

So it pays to be flexible & work both to your advantage!

Hertz has 1 way rentals as well.... they just cost twice as much as a regular award rental.

In my case, they did not honor the status match offer claiming that the offer was for US Residents only. However, when the offer was posted (I have a printout) there were no such restriction (they later added "avilable for members in the U.S. and Canada only" to the webpage, but it was not there initially).
