Hotel safe thieves pose as tourists from the Gulf

Police in France have arrested two men suspected of stealing safes from hotel rooms by posing as tourists fromt he GCC and telling reception staff that they had lost their room keys.

Once the thieves, said to have posed as wealthy tourists from Gulf countries, were given replacement room keys, they used stethoscopes to listen at the door to make sure the rooms were empty.

French police say that the thieves used a hammer and chisel to remove the safes, mostly in high-end hotels in Paris and on the French Riviera. They then removed the safes from the rooms in hotel suitcases.

Sounds like that some hotels gave out room keys too fast, especially to the perpetrators. 🙁

Not wanting to ring the alarm bell, but it does sound like all tourists need to be especially aware of many types of criminals in Paris having the ability to extract their money and possessions! 🙁

Looks like Paris isn't the safest city in Europe, I guess they need to clean up their act in terms of being secure for visitors. Of course such "elements" incl. pickpockets and other thieves are prevalent in many cities around the world incl. especially in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville in Europe among many others. 🙁

What do you know, Paris and Sofia are not on the "World's Unfriendliest Cities" list! 😉

Every once in a while, I forget my key inside the room and almost every time, the front desk asks for photo id before reissuing new keys.
