    The specifics are rather vague on the Japan sweepstakes.

    Is that $1000 walking-around money, or is the winner expected to pay air fare for two to Kyoto and maybe the hotel out of it? If so, good luck finding a flight for that amount, and you may want to take a sleeping bag (two, if you and your companion are not *really* close).

    The $1000 is specifically earmarked for airfare. And you’re right: the winner will probably have to add some of his own funds (or use frequent-flyer miles) to make up the difference between that and that actual cost of tickets to Japan.
