Acquiring a Brazilian Visa in New York City Just Got Easier!

Sao Paulo, Brazil

When it comes to international travel, one of the things I hate is having to send away my passport for a visa. Because I live in Kansas, the nearest foreign consulates are 400+ miles away, so I can’t just drop off my passport on the way to work. I have to fill out the application, send it to a processing company (I use CIBT) and then wait for it to be processed by the consulate, sent back to CIBT and shipped back to me. If there are any delays with shipping, I can’t exactly go down and pick up my passport.. It’s stuck in limbo.

For those who live in the New York area, it just became a lot easier to get a Brazilian visa. Per the website for the Brazilian Consulate in New York City, appointments are no longer required for submitting visa applications.

STARTING JAN/19TH/2016, THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF BRAZIL IN NEW YORK WILL NO LONGER REQUIRE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS FOR VISA APPLICANTS.

FROM 01/19/2016, THE CONSULATE WILL RECEIVE VISA APPLICATIONS ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.

OUR DOORS ARE OPEN AT 9AM AND WE CAN GUARANTEE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ALL CITIZENS THAT ARRIVE UNTIL 10AM.

SHOULD ANY EXCESS OF DEMAND HAPPEN, THE CONSULATE RESERVES ITS RIGHT TO REQUEST APPLICANTS TO RETURN  ON THE FOLLOWING DAY (S).

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ANY DATE AFTER 01/19/2016, YOU MAY COME ON THE SCHEDULED DAY. YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL BE HONORED.

As a reminder, a Brazilian visa is valid for 10 years and costs $160. Though a bit pricey, airlines often have excellent fare sales for first and business travel from Brazil and economy tickets to Brazil are very easy to get for less than $700.
