Stealing Miles

Stealing Miles

A Washington state travel agent has been charged with stealing nearly 3.7 million frequent flyer miles from her well-traveled clients to redeem for flights for herself and her family over a period of approximately three years. Karen Yeakel, formerly of Stellar Travel in Bellevue, Wash. is charged with using frequent flyer miles to buy 135 flights worth more than $109,000. She misled customers into thinking that they could not earn miles for certain flights when she had used the miles for her own benefit. She’s also accused of using the credit cards of clients to buy $180,000 worth of plane tickets and then offering the tickets to other customers at a steep discount.
