Through Sept. 28, 2012, MasterCard will donate up to $4 million to fund cancer research through Stand Up 2 Cancer whenever cardholders spend $10 or more for a meal and pay with their MasterCard. The company will donate $.01 per qualifying $10 restaurant transaction. A penny per dine isn’t much and 400 million cardholders will need to spend a combined total of $4 billion on eating out in order for the maximum donation of $4 million to be reached. The offer includes transactions at all fast food and restaurant retailers paid for with MasterCard cards issued by U.S. banks, so the pennies can add up quickly, especially since registration is not required and many people will probably pay with MasterCard without even knowing about the promotion.
