United MileagePlus has added a Gift Registry which allows members to request miles from friends and family. After setting up a Gift Registry, you will receive a unique URL address that allows other members to purchase or transfer miles into your registry. Registry recipients can receive a minimum of 20,000 and a maximum of 500,000 miles per year. The cost to purchase and transfer miles are the standard rates: $35 per 1,000 miles plus a 7.5 percent tax to purchase miles and $15 per 1,000 miles to transfer.
