Marriott's MegaMiles Returns

Marriott's MegaMiles Returns

Marriott Rewards members can earn triple miles with their preferred airline program from July 1 through Oct. 31, 2012, when they register and take part in the latest MegaMiles promotion. The triple miles kick in after your second stay (not night).

Registration for the promotion can be made any time between now and Oct. 31, 2012 to get the bonus miles. Miles are earned based on qualifying charges to the hotel room: room rate, meals, beverages, phone calls, movies and purchases at a Marriott-operated gift shop.

Participating frequent flyer program airlines include: Aeroflot, Air Berlin, Air Canada, Air China, Alaska Airlines, Alitalia, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Avianca-TACA, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern, China Southern, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, GOL/Varig, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, Jet Airways, JetBlue, Kingfisher Airlines, KLM/Air France, LAN, Lufthansa, Qatar, Singapore Airlines, Southwest Airlines, TAP Portugal, United Airlines, US Airways, Virgin America and Virgin Atlantic. For full information, visit http://www.MarriottRewards.com/MegaMiles or call (800) 441-0862 in the U.S. and Canada.

Bottom line: In the past, select members of the Marriott Rewards program have been offered differing promotions so watch your email inbox. The last time the MegaMiles promotion ran, members earned 2,000 bonus miles after the second stay instead of triple miles. Most frequent flyer programs offer two airline miles for every dollar spent on qualifying charges, so with this offer, you will earn six miles per dollar spent. If a qualifying hotel room portfolio equals $200, that’s 1,200 bonus miles, and not as lucrative as the former 2,000-bonus mile offer of the past for a one-night stay. This time, you’ll have to spend $333 per stay to earn a 2,000-mile bonus. If your stays are typically more than one night, you’ll likely earn more miles with this latest offer. There is no mention in the terms and conditions of the current MegaMiles promotion of a cap in the number of miles you can earn (last time, the amount of miles you could earn was capped at 50,000 miles). Note that there is also a MegaBonus promotion running through Aug. 31, 2012, that will give you bonus points instead of bonus miles.
