Elite members of Southwest Rapid Rewards and AirTran A+ Rewards will now receive limited reciprocal benefits when flying on either airline. Southwest Airlines completed its purchase of AirTran Airways on May 2, 2011, and the introduction of reciprocal benefits for elite members marks the beginning of the integration of the two frequent flyer programs. AirTran A+ Rewards elite members can enjoy bonus points, priority boarding and access to security lanes when flying on Southwest planes and Rapid Rewards A-List and A-List Preferred members will receive free upgrades to business class, no baggage fees and other benefits when flying on AirTran Airways.
