Anyone can purchase miles for your registry and miles will automatically be added to your account. Dividend Miles members can also transfer miles from their account to yours. You can also include where you want to go and the occasion, upload photos and write a personal message. Share a link to your registry via Facebook or Twitter, or send a link to your gift registry page via email, and visitors to your registry can buy or share miles with you. The website will display the total number of miles requested, miles given and miles still needed.

Bottom line: Setting up a gift registry is a great way to request miles and gives friends and family members the ability to contribute a small amount of money to your travel goal. But keep in mind that if you’re not transferring miles into the gift registry, miles are expensive (unless there is a 100 percent bonus offer on buying miles) and it’s cheaper to buy a ticket than buy all the miles needed for a flight award.
