About.com recently ran an online poll asking travelers to vote on their favorite frequent flyer programs. Five programs were finalists: Aeroplan, American AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles, Southwest Rapid Rewards and United Mileage Plus. At the end of the voting period where members were asked, “which frequent flyer program provides fair and hassle-free opportunities for its members”, American Airlines came out on top with 86 percent of the vote–we suspect mostly because the airline mentioned the poll on its Twitter feed. United came in a very distant second with just five percent of the almost 5,000 votes.
