Continental Airlines is introducing self-boarding at one of its gates in Houston. The new technology makes it possible for passengers to board the plane without handing their boarding pass to an agent. Passengers will receive a barcode printed on their paper boarding pass or mobile device that they can scan right before entering the jetway to board the plane. A digital screen has been installed overhead to guide passengers through the process and there will also be a regular boarding lane with an agent. If the system is successful, expect to see self-boarding at additional Continental Airlines gates and airports.
