WestJet's Frequent Guest

Canada’s WestJet has finally launched its frequent flyer program. (The program was set to launch in June but was pushed back.) Called Frequent Guest Program (FGP), WestJet customers will receive “WestJet dollars” that can then be used toward future WestJet travel to any WestJet destination with no blackout dates.

WestJet dollars are earned at 2.5 percent of the amount you spend on any published fares on WestJet flights (excluding taxes, fees and surcharges) when you spend $1,500 in a year. When members reach $1,500 in their annual qualifying year (the 12-month period starting from the date you enroll in the program) they will get $50 WestJet dollars to spend and will also start earning one percent on money spent on WestJet Vacation packages (the amount spent at WestJet vacations does not count toward your annual spend of $1,500). If your annual spend reaches $4,500 you’ll get $165 WestJet dollars and a “Canadian JetAway”–a companion flight anywhere WestJet flies within Canada, four complimentary advance seat selection vouchers and two airport lounge passes. As an introductory offer until Dec. 31, 2010, members need only spend $3,000 to get the Canadian JetAway perks.

When FGP members’ annual spend reaches $6,000, they will receive $230 WestJet dollars and another “Jet-Away”–a complimentary companion flight anywhere WestJet flies, four additional advance seat selection vouchers and two more airport lounge passes.

If you’re spending reaches $7,500 in your membership year, you will get an additional $300 WestJet dollars. Each membership year starts fresh toward your annual spend of at least $1,500, which is approximately four roundtrip tickets per year. If you do not plan to fly that much, this program is not meant for you.

WestJet dollars have a shelf life of five years and will expire at the end of the fifth year after you earned them. Additional WestJet dollars can be earned through the RBC MasterCard and various bonus offers. For full information, including more fine print, visit http://insideflyerus.wpengine.com/link/?2298
