Virgin America has raised its fee for checked baggage by $5. Travelers will now be charged $25 (from $20) for each checked bag. All of the legacy carriers have increased baggage fees to $25 for a first checked bag and $35 for a second bag so Virgin America’s new fee for a second checked bag is lower than average, but Elevate does not include an elite program with waived baggage fees so all main cabin passengers are subject to the fee. Travelers in first class can continue to check two bags for free and main cabin select passengers and those with fully refundable main cabin fares receive one complimentary checked bag.
