Air New Zealand Airpoints members can make wishes at the Airpoints Fairy Web site at www.airpointsfairy.co.nz and if the magic dust is abundant that day, you just might get your wish fulfilled. If it sounds like we’ve been ingesting some magic dust, check out the Web site to see what this is all about. You make a wish, and once a day a wish will be granted. Like the Web site says, “You can wish for whatever you want, but I [the Airpoints fairy] can only grant wishes for Airpoints members. Most wishes I grant are related to Airpoints or a few other services Air New Zealand offer.” The fairy loves Twitter, so that’s a good way to make your wish known. On our visit, there had been 21,409 Fairyland visitors. The wishes that are granted might be big or small according to the Airpoints fairy, and we saw wishes such as a rather lowly request for 500 Airpoints or three lounge passes, to several requests for elite status upgrades and requests for free flights. You must be 18 years or older to submit a wish.
Bottom line: We love the Web site–the graphics, the ambient music and all. And this is a clever way for Air New Zealand to get Twitter followers, new members and a few ever more loyal members if their wishes are granted. The cost to join Airpoints is NZD50.
