Marriott introduced rollover nights for elite qualification in 2009 and is extending the offer for 2010. Any nights stayed above the number of nights needed to qualify for elite or to renew your elite status in 2010 will rollover into 2011. For example, a Gold member who stays 65 nights in 2010 will begin 2011 with 15 elite-qualifying nights in their account.

Marriott is also introducing Instant Redemption for elite members. The new benefit will go into effect this spring and will allow elite members to redeem points at checkout for your entire folio balance or specific items, such as drinks or dinner.

Bottom line: We expected the rollover program to continue and would not be surprised if Marriott makes this a permanent feature of their program.
