goldpoints plus Double Gold

The next time you’re searching for a stay at a Carlson Hotel in North and South America, you’ll notice a new standard rate available: the Double Gold Points rate. The rate will automatically show up as an option when you search, if it is available. For example, we searched for a stay in November in the Bay Area. The Radisson Hotel San Francisco Airport Bay Front offered a Double Gold Points rate of $108.90 on weekend days. You could also choose from a Gas&Go Standard room (includes a free $25 gas card) for $84.15 or a Save and Get a $10 Restaurant Credit guest room for $74.25 for the same dates.

Bottom line: Our contact at Carlson says that this new rate has been a big hit with business travelers who love their points. At first glance at the numbers above, it looks like you’d effectively be paying over $44 a night from the lowest rate to get the double points, but on closer inspection, the $25 gas card and the $10 restaurant credit are only available if you spend three or more consecutive nights. And the lowest rate requires pre-payment and fees if you have to cancel. So, with that in mind, you would be paying around $25 more from the middle rate for double points.
