More to Come from Continental

When writing about the recent hike in baggage fees by Continental–$20 instead of $15 for paying for your checked bag at the airport instead of online for one bag, $30 instead of $25 for the second bag–the Houston Chronicle reported, “The company said ‘other revenue initiatives’ were coming and will be revealed later.” Continental also upped its telephone reservation booking service fee from $15 to $20.

Bottom line: There’s nothing surprising here. Continental is following US Airways and United with charging more if you do not pay for your checked bags in advance online. However, if you have a OnePass credit card, your checked baggage fee will be waived along with the checked bag fees of your traveling companions as long as they are listed in the same reservation and check in at the same time.
