Customers of Virgin America can now offset the environmental impact of their flights via a credit card swipe and touch screen on the seatbacks in the planes. This is the first airline to offer this capability. The suggested amounts to donate are $5 per roundtrip for flights up to 2,500 miles (example, Seattle-Los Angeles roundtrip) or $10 for flights up to 5,500 miles (example, New York City-San Francisco roundtrip). The donations go to Carbonfund.org, a nonprofit carbon offset provider that focuses on U.S. based carbon emissions reductions that are independently validated and verified.
