The first project the money will go towards is the reforestation of farmland at Mangarara Station in Hawke’s Bay. The farm project was adopted after the owners of the land contacted Air New Zealand to ask if their Air Points could be redeemed for carbon credits. At this initial stage of the scheme, members of Air Points cannot use their points. The cost of offsetting carbon emissions for a passenger on a flight from Auckland to Wellington will be NZD$4.50, from Christchurch to Sydney NZD$13.70 or from Auckland to Los Angeles, NZD$88.10. There is a calculator online that customers can use for the suggested amounts, but you can choose the amount you wish to give.
