Rewards Credit Cards

Liz Pulliam Weston, finance columnist for MSN Money, recently asked credit card experts (including our Editor, Randy Petersen) for their top recommendations for credit cards that give rewards. For travel program credit cards, the American Express Starwood card came in at the top with Diners Club MasterCard coming in second. Rounding out the top five favorite cards were American Airlines AAdvantage MasterCard, United Mileage Plus Visa and Choice Privileges Visa. Although the American Express Starwood card came in first, Weston points out two main flaws: it’s not good if you want United Mileage Plus miles because United requires two Starpoints to be converted for every Mileage Plus mile — you’re better off with a United credit card; and because the card is an American Express card, you have a mere four million merchants to choose from compared to six million merchants each for Visa and MasterCard.
