JAL Mileage Bank is extending the life of miles, offering limited-time discounted award tickets and anytime awards to elite members during an upcoming promotion. Mileage Bank is changing its award zones on domestic flights and offering discounted awards on domestic and international flights during two promotional periods. Domestic awards currently set at 15,000 miles will be divided into three zones, based on distance. Award flights within Zone A will require 12,000 miles; Zone B, 15,000 miles; and Zone C, 20,000 miles. Members can redeem 11,000 miles for domestic flights within zones A and B with travel dates between April 1 and June 30, 2008 (excluding April 29-May 6). And for travel dates between Dec. 1, 2008 and Feb. 28, 2009 (excluding Dec. 26-Jan. 4), members can redeem 10,000 miles for a roundtrip flight within Zone A and 12,000 miles within Zone B. The discounted awards are only available when booking online and reservations must be made no earlier than two months in advance and no later than four days prior to departure. You can upgrade to a Class J award ticket for an additional 2,000 miles per segment. Award seats are limited and itineraries can include combining cities in Zone A and Zone B — the mileage will be half of the required miles for each zone.
International award tickets will also be discounted during the same promotional dates. Awards will be discounted by 15 and 25 percent for online bookings only. For example, a roundtrip ticket between Tokyo and Honolulu is reduced to 30,000 miles (normally 40,000 miles) on travel from April 1 through June 30, 2008 and Dec. 1, 2008 through Feb. 28, 2009. Blackout dates apply and vary by route. Reservations can be made beginning Feb. 1, 2008, but international award reservations must be made no earlier than 330 days before the departure date.
JMB Diamond elite members will have the opportunity to redeem for any available seat for double the required number of miles for domestic and international award tickets for travel between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009.
Starting April 1, 2008, Mileage Bank members will have 36 months from the end of the month in which the miles were earned to redeem the miles — the new policy extends the life of miles for up to an additional year. The current policy requires members to redeem miles by Dec. 31 of the second year after the original flight or service date. These new rules apply retroactively to miles earned between Jan. 1, 2006 and March 31, 2008.
