Obama Points

Obama Points

We caught this mention on the Baltimore Sun Web site: “Although not as coveted as Marriott Rewards points or United Airlines frequent flyer miles, the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama is trying to establish its own loyalty program with ‘My Points’.” Seems the Presidential hopeful is soliciting help for his campaign by granting points for various actions that help his campaign, such as marching in a parade for 25 points, signing a supporter card or convincing another voter to do so, or helping with a phone bank for 50 points. No word yet of the awards his followers can expect to be able to redeem their points for, but the article quotes Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and the campaign’s online organizer: “There’s no pot at the end of the rainbow. We probably will at some point run a special initiative…where they get to have some type of reward.” Hughes says that the points system is primarily a way for supporters to measure the impact they are having on the campaign.
