JAL Eco

Carbon offsets for airlines is all the rage, but Japan Airlines has been on the forefront of the green movement for some time now and embraces it with the airlines’ mileage program. For the second year running, Japan Airlines will support OISCA International’s Inner Mongolia Greening Project against Desertification through the JAL Miles for Eco project. Members of JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) can donate miles to OISCA in 10,000-mile increments. The JAL Group will donate one yen per mile donated until the end of July. Japan Region members can make donations through the JAL Web site, and members of other regions can donate by calling their regional JMB call center. OISCA is an acronym for Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement. OISCA’s Inner Mongolia Greening Project against Desertification aims to curb the advancement of the desert, which is leading to soil degradation of the grassland and farmland that local habitants rely on for their livelihood. Working closely with local communities and government, the project is developing green planting techniques, building environmental awareness and creating a locally supervised, self-reliant and sustainable anti-desertifciation program.
