Long time readers will remember when car rentals could earn you an easy 1,000 bonus miles. And many of you can no doubt recall when 500 miles was a reasonable bonus to expect from a car rental. Today you’re lucky to get 50 miles a day when renting a car.

Well, times, they are a changing — for the better. Both Thrifty and Dollar are offering aggressive bonuses to catch your car rental business.

Dollar renters can earn 1,000 bonus miles with an intermediate or larger vehicle for three days or more on rentals through Nov, 15, Sunday through Wednesday. These miles, when booked with the promotion code DLR6, will earn you miles in either the Mileage Plan, AAdvantage, OnePass, SkyMiles, WorldPerks, Mileage Plus or Dividend Miles program.

Thrifty members who book in advance on thrify.com through Nov. 15 can earn triple miles with the same frequent flyer programs. A minimum two-day rental of a midsize car or larger vehicle applies. To book a qualifying rental (this is the trick), visit the “Partner Specials” page of thrifty.com and the appropriate promo code will be pre-populated when booking the reservation.

Note: Triple miles will only be awarded for a maximum of seven days per rental.
