Frequent Flyer Cancer Concerns Eased

Sure you collect miles in the air. But what about cosmic rays?

In response to the concerns of frequent flyers, a scientific study of 44,000 airline crew members from eight countries indicated that their cancer death rates were similar to the rest of the population. New Scientist magazine reported that skin cancer deaths were, however, higher among the pilots but that researchers believed it was due to other factors.

“Pilots go on vacation more often than other people and they get free flights. There’s anecdotal evidence that they’re in the sun more than other people,” Maria Blettner, of the University of Bielefeld in Germany told Reuters.
