Czech Republic: Czech Airlines Turns 80

Czech Airlines’ frequent flyer program is a healthy 10 years old, but the airline itself has become an octogenarian.

On Oct. 29, the airline will mark the passage of the 80th year since its first flight between Prague and BTS in 1923.

Birthday parties are all well and good, of course, but in true consumer spirit, what’s in it for you?

Try this on: All members with any activity this year will receive an 800 mile bonus. All member flying on Oct. 29 will get an extra 1,923 miles. Those fortunate enough to be on the seminal Prague-BTS route on that day get an additional 500 miles.

And from Oct. 29 to Nov. 30, award tickets through OK Plus will be discounted by 20 percent.

Not too shabby for an 80-year-old.

In other news, Czech will begin its own dining program called “AirRestaurants” that will allow its members to earn miles at more than 100 eateries. Details are sketchy as we go to press, but czech-out the OK Plus Web site, www.ok-plus.com, for more information.
