On June 10, Direct Energy, Canada’s largest energy retailer, announced that it had partnered with Air Miles to provide customers with miles for their energy purchases.

In the months to come, Alberta Air Miles collectors will have the opportunity to earn up to 350 reward miles on their residential natural gas and electricity purchases if they register with Direct Energy before July 31.

Direct energy recently purchased competitors ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric, which together serve about 1 million customers in Alberta. By offering miles, Direct will become the first power retailer to offer a loyalty program.

So go ahead, run a heavy load of wash. And while you’re at it, why not leave the lights in the basement on all night (gasp).
